ISHA Launches Podcast CE Series
Dr. Kris Brock is the 2021 President-Elect of ISHA. He is committed to demonstrating the exceptional value that ISHA provides to SLPs throughout the state. That is why he has launched the ISHA podcast called "Conversations with National Leaders." During these conversations, Dr. Brock will speak with national and international researchers and clinicians on topics important to Idaho SLPs. Typical language development and AAC intervention: How does one inform the other?
Cathy Binger, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a Professor in the Speech and Hearing Sciences Department at the University of New Mexico. She has published multiple research articles, books, and book chapters focusing on language development for young children who require AAC. She utilizes typical language development to help clinicians understand the next therapeutic steps during the AAC evaluation and intervention process.

Spoken discourse analysis in persons living with aphasia: What, why and how?
Dr. Stark is an early stage investigator (Assistant Professor) at Indiana University Bloomington. Dr. Stark was a Gates Cambridge Scholar during her PhD at Cambridge, where she evaluated iPad-based therapy in persons living with aphasia, as well as inner speech. Her recent work aims to improve the evidence base on around spoken discourse (sometimes called language sampling) in persons living with aphasia. To this end, she was awarded an ASHFoundation Grant investigating test-retest (short interval) reliability across discourse genres in speakers with and without aphasia. This is a pilot project feeding into a larger initiative, which is an international working group called FOQUSAphasia (FOcusing on QUality of Spoken discourse in aphasia).

Treatment intensity evidence for children with language disorder
Dr. Schmitt is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas-Austin in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She has been awarded several NIH and other competitive grants to investigate child-level and treatment-level aspects of therapy that affect language and literacy outcomes for children with language disorders. She also is investigating behavioral regulation intervention and its effects on children’s language and literacy outcomes.

Bilingualism and Aphasia: How Can We Improve AAC Technologies ?
Research addressing multicultural and multilingual issues in the augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) field is sparse. This interview series will report the survey data about SLP’s current practice and perception on working with bilingual people with aphasia (PWA) who use speech-generating devices (SGD) to enhance their communication competence. The findings will help clinicians' further understand SLP’s current practice working with diverse populations as well as the barriers and suggestions based on user-related, device-related, and environment-related factors.
